Juliana
Mrs.Lovegood was founded by Juliana Hurtado, a textile designer from Central Saint Martin’s College of Art & Design in London. She has worked for ten years as an independent designer and interior design consultant.
Mrs. Lovegood is an answer to the needs of clients to have unique items that connect their homes to the very essence of designing and making, natural materials and 100% handmade items.
Mrs. Lovegood is inspired in tradition; connecting with the beauty of a tiny imperfection and the unique touch of handmade crafts. Mrs. Lovegood is a passion for texture, a discovery of the very soul of a material, the history of its threads and the ability to decipher its heritage.
Mrs. Lovegood brings back the techniques of our grandmothers and reignites them with contemporary design; this mixture of past and present results in a truly beautiful, lasting product.
The rhythmical clicking of the looms and the silent laughter of the artisans who embroider and weave with their prodigious hands is the background music of Mrs. Lovegood’s atelier, a space dedicated to slower, more romantic times. Each object has imprinted a bit of the soul of each of the people that take part in the process, all the way from the inspiration to the packaging.
Our Artisans
Nidia
Nidia was 8 years old when she began sitting by her aunt, watching her knit. When she was a child she spent her allowance on crafts magazines and yarns. She has practised her craft for 50 years. She is passionate, quick and strong. Nidia has been on the team since 2014.
Isabel
Isabel is one of our youngest artisans. Her first approach to embroidery was when she was in school. She accompanied her grandmother to her knitting groups on Thursdays where she watched the ladies making dollies. She decided this was her calling and is now learning embroidery as a student at an arts and crafts school.
Carolina
Carolina has been working with us since 2014 and she has become a master in basket making. Her first steps were right by her mother who taught her to do crochet.
She was introduced to us by one of our artisans; they were neighbours and they found a way of working together - now they meet up to do crochet.
Yolanda
Yolanda has been with us since the beginning of Mrs Lovegood. She learned how to do crochet and embroider in school. When she made a blanket for her first son, she discovered this was her real passion. She is the person behind our handmade animals and many other embroidery products and crochet items. Her son Gilberth was her first and most important student.
Gilberth
Gilberth has been with us since 2014, he is now the person behind screen printing, cross-stitch and finishing. His mother Yolanda, the first artisan to join our brand, taught him how to cross-stitch when he was 9 years old. Little by little he has learned other stitches from his mother and screen printing at our atelier.
Javier
Javier has been weaving for more than 30 years. He grew up in the countryside close to a town called Cucunubá with a strong weaving tradition. When looking for a job as a kid, the only two options were the local coal mine or weaving. He started winding bobbins at a workshop where he learned the craft by watching. He believes in tradition and in the importance of keeping this craft alive.
Gloria
Gloria has been in touch with her artistic side most of her life. Being the only one in her family with this interest she joined a group of ladies that taught different arts and craft techniques. She joined a crafts school to learn proper embroidery becoming a very talented artisan. She believes in things made the slow way. Embroidering is her passion, harmony and stability, it´s how she expresses herself.
Rubi
Rubi has been with us since the beginning, with a constant smile on her face she is the person in charge of sewing, finishing and organizing everybody´s jobs.
She began sewing when she was a teenager, playing with fabrics and making clothes for her younger sister on her grandmother´s manual sewing machine. Her first proper sewing job was when she was 17, she hasn´t stopped since then. Her craft is her refuge, that´s where she turns the simplest fabrics into beautiful objects, it´s the space where beautiful transformations occur.
